Instructions for Use

To set up the Hand Cradle r2:

  1. If you haven’t already, download and install the ZYTO Pro or ZYTO Compass software at zyto.com/technical-support/software.
  2. Open the software and log in using your username and password. Click here if you have forgotten your password.
  3. Connect the Hand Cradle to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
  4. Windows will automatically start downloading the new device driver. Allow 1-3 minutes for Windows to finish this installation the first time you use the device on a specific computer. A Windows pop-up message will confirm that the driver has been installed successfully.
    • Note: Be sure the driver has completely finished installing before initiating a scan.
  5. After Windows has installed the device driver, the Hand Cradle r2 is now ready for use with the software.

To Clean the Hand Cradle r2:

You can gently clean the Hand Cradle r2 using a damp wash cloth, alcohol wipe, or cleaning wipe. Clean the Hand Cradle after each scan or as you see necessary. Make sure that the Hand Cradle is dry before starting a scan.

Troubleshooting Tips

Tip #1: If you are unable to install the Hand Cradle r2 driver…

  1. Close the software and unplug the USB cord from the Hand Cradle.
  2. Log in to the software again and plug the USB cord back into the Hand Cradle.
  3. If the software prompts you to unplug the Hand Cradle, leave it plugged in.
  4. If the Hand Cradle driver is still not loading:
    1. Close the software
    2. Click on the Windows Start button
    3. Type “Windows update” in the search field
    4. Run the Windows update.
  5. Open the software again. If the issue is not resolved, go to the next step.
  6. If the Hand Cradle is plugged in, unplug it.
  7. If you are using Windows 8, 8.1, or 10, download the 64-bit driver. If you are using Windows Vista or 7 and have a 32-bit operating system, download the 32-bit driver. If you’re not sure whether you have a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows Vista or 7 system, contact ZYTO tech support.
  8. Save the driver installation to your desktop.
  9. Right click on the driver installation icon and select Run as Administrator.
  10. Plug the Hand Cradle in and run the software again. (If it’s still not working, contact ZYTO tech support.

Tip#2: If you are unable to begin a scan because the software isn’t recognizing the Hand Cradle r2…

  1. Click on Settings if you are using the ZYTO Pro software or Administrative Settings if you are using the ZYTO Compass software.
  2. Place your hand on the Hand Cradle and then click the Connect (Pro software users) or Hand Cradle Check (Compass software users) button.
  3. If you get a “Hand Cradle is connected” message, you are ready to scan. If you get a “Connect Hardware” (ZYTO Pro users) or “Hand Cradle not found” (ZYTO Compass users) message, proceed to the next step.
  4. Wash hands in warm water with soap. Then place your hand on the Hand Cradle and click the Connect or Hand Cradle Check button.
  5. If you get a “Hand Cradle is connected” message, you are ready to scan. If you get a “Connect Hardware” or “Hand Cradle not found” message, proceed to the next step.
  6. Try plugging the Hand Cradle cord in to a different USB port on the computer. Then place your hand on the Hand Cradle and click the Connect or Hand Cradle Check button.
  7. If you get a “Hand Cradle is connected” message, you are ready to scan. If you get a “Connect Hardware” or “Hand Cradle not found” message, proceed to the next step.
  8. Uninstall the Hand Cradle driver:
    1. Open the computer’s Control Panel
    2. In the upper right hand search bar, type “device manager”
    3. Click on device manager
    4. Look for Universal Serial Bus controllers
      1. Expand the menu
    5. Locate “USB Serial Converter” (It’s usually at the bottom.)
    6. Right click on it and click uninstall
    7. Do NOT click on OK yet. First, check off “Delete the driver software from this device”
    8. Click on OK
  9. Once the driver is uninstalled, plug the Hand Cradle back in:
    1. The drivers will install automatically
    2. Place your hand on the Hand Cradle and then click the Connect or Hand Cradle Check button
    3. If you get a “Hand Cradle is connected” message, you are ready to scan. If you get a “Connect Hardware” or “Hand Cradle not found” message, proceed to the next step
  10. Run Windows updates, making sure to run the optional updates as well.
  11. Place your hand on the Hand Cradle and then click the Connect or Hand Cradle Check button.
  12. If you get a “Hand Cradle is connected” message, you are ready to scan. If you get a “Connect Hardware” or “Hand Cradle not found” message, please contact ZYTO technical support.

Tip #3: If the scan pauses and resumes frequently…

  1. A poor skin connection to the Hand Cradle r2 is the most likely cause. View this connection tip video to learn how to establish and maintain a good connection with the Hand Cradle during the scan.

Safety & Warranty Information

Cleaning:

Cleaning your Hand Cradle r2 by immersing it or treating it with heat or steam sanitation can damage the device and may void your warranty. See the Instructions tab for directions on how to clean the Hand Cradle without damaging it.

Wall Plug-ins:

A USB wall plug is not provided as support equipment for this device. Any damage to the device as a result of using a USB wall plug may void your Hand Cradle r2 warranty.

Repairs:

Attempting to fix physical defects or perform other repairs on your own may void your Hand Cradle r2 warranty. Contact technical support if you experience any of these issues with your Hand Cradle.
